I just found out that an irrational fear of long words, or phobia, is defined by the following name.
Hippopotomonstrosesquippedaliophobia
What the fuck is that about? How do you tell someone you've diagnosed what they have? Probably best to send in it the post for fear of being in their way when they unleash hell.

when giving 'the fear of long words' a name, anyone would be hardput not to take the piss and make it so long that even someone without the condition would probably fear it's length anyway.
still, i could have made up a longer word than that.

It is important that the word irrational is used. without it is not a phobia. having a fear of tigers, aids and sitting next to fat people on economy seats in a plane are all quite rational fears, its expected that a high proportion of people have such fears and its understandable.
Fear of long words though, along with fear of spiders (except of course poisonous ones), fear of enclosed spaces, and its opposite, all these fears are defined at the end with the term phobia. Roughly translated, phobia means "irrational fear of".
